June Project Yarnway

Well another month has gone by!  I can't believe it's July already.  This month for Project Yarnway we had to design something for a real or imagined vacation.  I desided to make my son a Super Sleuth sweater from the Disney cartoon "My Friends Tigger & Pooh".  It was a lot of fun to make and my first ever finished sweater!  My son just loves it as i'm sure you can tell!

Grapevine Casserole Hotpad

I just joined a Ravelry group called Project Yarnway in April.  It's a group for designers that has a monthly challenge where you have to start and complete a new design under the monthly challenge guidelines.  May's challenge was to learn a new technique and design a pattern that would be good for beginners.  I wanted to learn how to do free-form needlefelting.  I've only done a couple general shapes in a cookie cutter before.  I decided to do a placemat but didn't quite have enough yarn in my stash to complete it, so I went for a hotpad instead!  I knit it on my Kiss modular loom using 7 washers with a garter stitch border and knit center.  It felted into a rectangular shape which is perfect for a casserole dish hotpad!  I've always wondered why there aren't any rectangular ones, so now i've made my own.  I really like the shape of the grapes and the dimension I was able to get on them.  I hope you like it too.

2010 Goals - in review
Wednesday, 19 May 2010 13:29

Here are the goals I originally came up with for 2010.  I wanted to review them and see how I was doing and see if I had more goals to add or some to revise.

Goals for 2010:

  1. I hope to break the 100 mark this year for projects. - don't know if this will happen.  Seems like I'm working on a lot of longer projects this year, so I may not make that mark.
  2. Finish my son's double knit intarsia blanket. - I'm working steadily on this and hope to easily be done by fall.
  3. Place in the Vanna's Choice contest (why not!). - well, I'm assuming I didn't place since they haven't called me, but it was fun.  I entered my Granny Square Scarf.
  4. Enter a project in the State Fair. - got to start looking into that soon.  Not sure what to enter...any suggestions?
  5. Finish all my UFO's! - HAHA, well here's hoping!  I'm down to 2 long term UFO's that haven't been touched in a while and 5 projects that i'm currently working on!  Too many, I know.
  6. Knit a sweater! - One of my current projects is Graciela's sweater.  I'm over 1/2 done with the back.  I'm so excited and so far it's going easily.

Well that's my original goals.  New goals...

  1. Regularly enter Project Yarnway on Ravelry.  It's a group for designers to present their creations based on the criteria for that month.  I just found out about it late April, and have a project in mind for May to start working on.
  2. Needle Felt - I just learned how to do this at the Markman Farm retreat and I LOVE it!  I'm really excited about trying more things.  I want to try my hand at needle felting soap and doing Christmas ornaments or pins.  If you've never tried it, it's so much fun.
  3. Find a way to organize all my yarn so I can get to it easier.  That's a never ending goal for sure!

I've set myself up with a big list!  I'll probably re-evaluate again in 4 months or so and see where i'm at.  Hope you are doing well on your goals.
